How Many CC’s Are in a Breast Cup Size?

While many women are familiar with bra cup sizing, some may be unaware that breast implants do not correspond to cup size and are measured in cubic centimeters, or cc’s. When pursuing breast augmentation surgery, patients typically refer to their desired results by cup size, such as a C or D cup. While that information may be a start to the conversation and provide helpful insight, a patient’s silicone or saline breast implants will ultimately be measured by cc’s. 

Bra cup sizes don’t have standardized measurements, meaning the same cup size from different manufacturers may slightly vary. In addition, cup size volume changes according to the band size (number size) of the bra (*see picture below). This, along with the conversion from cup size to volume in cc’s, can make breast implant volume and final cup sizing more complicated to understand. Typically, patients of average height and weight that wear an A or B cup can expect an increase of roughly one cup size for every 200cc’s. Patients who are taller or have a wider build may require a larger implant, so more cc’s, to achieve the cup size increase they desire.
