A well-accepted approach to facial aging today, cosmetic injectables come in many different forms, and there are several brands to choose from. Because each individual filler has its unique strengths and characteristics, Dr. Mary Herte and Nurse Practitioner Hollie Tyler will utilize their extensive experience with all of the semi-permanent fillers to help you choose the best filler for your individual needs.
To customize treatment for your specific problem areas, Dr. Herte or Hollie may recommend one or more injectables, such as BOTOX® Cosmetic, Restylane®, RADIESSE®, or another option like JUVÉDERM. One of the most popular and versatile lines of dermal fillers available, JUVÉDERM can treat a wide range of facial concerns, from nasolabial folds and lip wrinkles to sunken cheeks and poor jawline definition.
What Is JUVÉDERM?
JUVÉDERM® is a smooth clear gel made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance found in our skin. The FDA has approved these fillers for treating unwanted folds and wrinkles, restoring volume loss, and improving facial contours. The most common use of these fillers is for filling and softening the nasolabial folds (the fold extending from the nose to the mouth); however, JUVÉDERM products are approved for many other uses, including lip augmentation, chin and jawline enhancement, treatment of undereye hollows, and more. They are also an excellent choice for other “off-label” uses.
Benefits of JUVÉDERM include immediate results, a soft and natural feel, a rapid recovery, less swelling than some other fillers, the ability to adjust your correction with a readily available dissolving enzyme, and the use of a very small needle for injection.
What Are the Different Types of JUVÉDERM?
Each JUVÉDERM product has unique benefits and can provide incredibly natural-looking results for the right candidates. Dr. Herte and Hollie are experienced with the entire collection of JUVÉDERM fillers, which includes the following:
- JUVÉDERM Ultra XC is used to smooth nasolabial folds, augment the lips, and smooth lines around the mouth, like lipstick (or smoker’s) lines or marionette lines. Results can last as long as one year.
- JUVÉDERM Ultra Plus XC can correct moderate to severe wrinkles, like nasolabial folds and marionette lines, and results are known to last a year or longer.
- JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC is for deep injection into the midfacial region to restore lost volume, as well as the chin area to enhance definition. This filler has been known to last for up to two years.
- JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC can add fullness to the lips, treat perioral lines, and diminish undereye hollows, with results lasting up to a year before retreatment is necessary.
- JUVÉDERM VOLLURE® XC may be recommended to correct facial wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds. Results often last up to 18 months.
- JUVÉDERM VOLUX™ XC is beneficial for deep injection into the jawline area to improve definition.
What Does the JUVÉDERM Treatment Involve?
The JUVÉDERM treatment process is relatively fast and tends to involve minimal pain, due to the lidocaine numbing agent that is incorporated into many of the different filler products. To perform your treatment, a very fine needle is used to administer the solution underneath the skin at the desired treatment sites. The JUVÉDERM formula being used bonds to the water naturally found in your skin, working to add volume and smooth out wrinkles.
JUVÉDERM injections typically work quickly and effectively, and it usually takes about 30 minutes or less for the entire treatment process to be completed. Results can be seen almost immediately and continue to improve over two to three weeks.
Do JUVÉDERM Injections Hurt?
Most JUVÉDERM products contain the anesthetic lidocaine to help instantly numb the area being treated, but if you are concerned about pain, our team offers a couple additional options to help you feel more comfortable. A numbing cream can be applied prior to your injections to further minimize any discomfort. In addition, our patients can utilize our innovative PRO-NOX™ technology, which is a self-administered nitrous oxide (laughing gas) system. This allows you to remain awake during your treatment while feeling a sense of euphoria as you relax and have your filler injections performed.
What Can I Expect After My JUVÉDERM Treatment?
Patients tend to experience minimal side effects after their JUVÉDERM treatment, such as minor bruising, swelling, and redness, all of which should subside quickly. Many patients can resume normal activities immediately after treatment; however, we suggest avoiding strenuous activities for the rest of the day. Normal activities can usually be resumed by the day after your JUVÉDERM treatment.
How Long Does JUVÉDERM Last?
Depending on the type and location of the JUVÉDERM filler being used, patients can enjoy results lasting anywhere from six months to two years. In less active areas of the face, correction with JUVÉDERM products tend to last longer. When used in areas like the lips, Dr. Herte and Hollie recommend a touch-up treatment at four months and then after another six months to maximize the result. Frequently, longer intervals between treatments will be possible if full correction is obtained.
How Much Does JUVÉDERM Cost?
The cost of your JUVÉDERM treatment will ultimately depend on the type of filler you are receiving, the area being treated, and the amount of product you need to achieve optimal results. During your initial consultation, our team will provide you with a personalized quote to help you budget for your treatment.
Is JUVÉDERM Safe?
Dr. Herte and Hollie use only genuine brand name aesthetic injectables, FDA approved for use in the United States, and purchased directly through the manufacturer.
The Herte Center for Cosmetic Surgery adheres to the strict Nevada Department of Health safety guidelines for single use vials and safe injection practice. For your safety, Dr. Herte and Hollie do not allow vial sharing: each “single use” vial is used only for a single patient treatment.
FDA-approved injectables may be used on a case-by-case basis for treatment for conditions that have not been approved during the FDA approval process. Dr. Herte or Hollie may recommend such “off-label” treatment to a specific patient based on evaluation of the individual situation, but discussion of such treatment should not be considered promotion of off-label procedures.
