Lasers have been used to rejuvenate the skin. But most of them leave the skin
with prolonged redness that is painful and inconvenient at best. Things in the
laser world have changed, however, with ResurFX® Resurfacing. Dr. Herte uses
this process to improve all the hallmarks of facial aging — blotchy pigmentation,
fine lines and wrinkles, dull crinkly skin, along with the uneven skin surface that is
the result of acne scarring.
Long a proponent of laser resurfacing — Dr. Herte has been providing fractional
laser treatments to her Las Vegas patients since the FDA first approved it — she
is excited in this newest laser technology provided by the Lumenis M22
ResurFX®. ResufFX is highly effective for all skin types and is safe enough that it
can be used on the neck and chest and other body areas.
The ResufFX® procedure
About one hour prior to your treatment, we apply a topical anesthetic to the
treatment areas. Dr. Herte recommends an oral sedation, as well, to help you
relax during the procedure and allow us to deliver the most effective treatment
Next, the ResufFX® Laser scanner is set to select a random pattern. It then
delivers laser pulses automatically over the treatment area while the handpiece is
placed over the skin. The laser delivers heat to a certain depth of the skin and
the sensation is hot and prickly (hence the local anesthetic).
Because the treatments are fractional, meaning only a percentage of your
skin is actually impacted by the laser heat, healing from each session is quick
and patients don’t experience the degree of redness or irritation common to CO2
laser resurfacing. Still, the body perceives the minute laser penetrations in the
skin as a wound and responds by delivering new skin cells to repair the wound.
After your ResurFX treatment you will likely be red and a little swollen for a few
days. You’ll also need to avoid sun exposure. But these issues will quickly pass
and your younger-looking skin will show itself.
