Ozempic®, GLP-1 Medications, and Body Sculpting
Your weight loss with GLP-1 medications like Ozempic® (*see below for a list of some similar drugs) can be very successful in achieving your goal weight but leave you with major facial and body changes that you may not be happy with.
We find that patients in the process of weight loss who are feeling unhappy with resistant fatty bulges may consider CoolSculpting® to normalize the body contour more rapidly. Since it is a more gradual change in fat layer, it can be a helpful boost to your motivation and confidence once you are close to your goal weight. Getting a jump start on fine-tuning your body shape with CoolSculpting® can get you closer to your personal vision and reward your hard work.
Liposuction (a more aggressive surgical approach to body sculpting) can also be helpful in refining your silhouette once you reach your goal but should only be undertaken at your goal weight to minimize unevenness and loss of correction that can happen with significant shifts in fitness or weight.
The most disappointing aspect of major weight loss is the skin laxity that ordinarily accompanies a large loss of weight. Skin laxity is a difficult problem and may require surgical excision of the loose skin. This could involve abdominoplasty or tummy tuck, arm lift (brachioplasty), breast lift (or breast augmentation) or other body lifts.
Facial sagging, loss of volume and deflation can occur as well and since this an area that is hard to hide, ongoing correction may keep you happier with your looks and reduce discouragement while you complete your weight loss journey. While you may end up deciding that a facelift or neck lift for sagging skin of the face and neck are your best option, those surgical choices should wait till your goal weight is achieved. But meanwhile, consider rewarding your progress with keeping your skin healthy and improving the skin freshness and glow with medical skin care (medical facials). As your weight declines, your face deflates, and the fat layer is reduced, judicious volumizing with injectable fillers (JUVÉDERM® or Restylane® families of filler) and structural support of the face with rejuvenation filler (for example, RADIESSE® for collagen stimulation) can keep a healthy and youthful look despite major weight loss.
We have many options for looking good while you continue your weight loss. Everyone’s journey results in different challenges. We can help you navigate the changes and choose the best plan to maintain your beauty goals and achieve your personal best.
